Designer gowns require altering. That’s a fact, and it should not be ignored when ordering your gown. The seam allowance varies by designer. It is better to order the size that fits at time of ordering and have to have seams taken in then hope there is enough fabric in the seam allowance to let out. If you think you’re going to lose weight and think you should order a smaller size … forget about it! The cost for alterations is dependent on what is required as well as the construction of the gown. Make sure you allow ample time for your alterations. Remember, seamstresses are working on many gowns and are not sitting poised at the sewing machine waiting for your gown. The undergarments and shoes you will wear with the gown are required to insure proper fit.
